Today’s word of the day is gubbins. Gubbins is a noun that literally means a collection of objects that are not important. Primarily however, the word gubbins is part of the British dialect meaning, fish parings or refuse (i.e. scraps). Its lesser known British meaning is a foolish or futile person (i.e. a simpleton).
Use it in a sentence!
She threw away the gubbins on the table to make room.
But where did it come from?
The word gubbins appears to be a derivative of the English words gobone and gobbet and from the Middle English words gobyn and goboun.
