Today’s word of the day is phonophobia. Phonophobia is a noun. It basically means having an intolerance of or hypersensitivity to sound. A more dated definition is that it is a fear of sounds, especially loud, sudden ones. (I may secretly suffer from phonophobia!)
It can also be a fear of hearing one’s own voice or speaking aloud.Have you ever been in class or in any kind of public setting and someone calls on you to speak, and you get that instant stage fright?
