Word of The Day: Malarkey

Today's word of the day might be familiar to most people. It's malarkey! Malarkey is a noun that means nonsense, or meaningless talk. Remember taradiddle? It's like that.

Use it in a sentence!

"My grandpa doesn't trust politicians. He thinks everything they say is malarkey!"

But where did it come from?

Etymologists agree that the word malarkey has been around since the 1920's but it's exact origin is unknown. Some think it has irish roots from the word mullachan, which means strong boy or ruffian. Others think it has roots in the modern greek word malakia, which means worthlessness.
