As you might have guessed, today’s word of the day is mother! The word mother is a noun that has three main definitions. The first is that it is a female parent. The second is that it is an extreme or very large example of something. The final meaning is that it is the head of a convent.
I know that we all have our own informal definitions of the word mother, based on the woman that raised us. Our moms are special to each of us. They are the ones that make sure that we are taken care of even when we whinge. They are the ones that will feed us before themselves when we groak. Usually, theirs is the food we ingurgitate!

The word mother is of old English origin. It also has Germanic roots with the word mōdor, with relations to the Dutch word moeder and the German word Mutter. The German word Mutter also has Indo-European roots, shared by the Latin word mater and the Greek word mētēr.
